To provide a wheel drive device capable of reducing a centrifugal force added to a rotor of a motor and regenerative electric power generated when wheels rotate at high speed by an external force.SOLUTION: A wheel drive device 1 includes: an electric motor 2; a driving shaft 24 rotating integrally with a rotor 22; a sun gear 30 rotating integrally with the driving shaft 24; a plurality of planetary gears 31 which have a first gear part 34 and a second gear part 35 and in which the first gear part 34 engages with the sun gear 30; a first internal gear 32 which engages the first gear part 34 of the plurality of planetary gears 31 and has a first tooth-shaped part 32a on a side surface; a switch mechanism 4 which is provided with a clutch disc 40 having a second tooth-shaped part 40a that freely comes in contact with and separates from the first tooth-shaped part 32a of the first internal gear 32 and is for switching the state that allows rotation of the first internal gear 32 and the state that stops rotations of the first internal gear 32; a second internal gear 33 engaging the second gear part 35 of the plurality of planetary gears 31; and an output shaft 38 rotating integrally with the second internal gear 33.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
