To provide a crane which can improve anti-vibration effect in a short side direction of a hanger without increasing a size of a trolley, and a crane rope stretching method.SOLUTION: When hanging a rope R around an upper sheave Sb via a lower sheave Sa from a trolley 2, the rope is stretched in the state that a first portion 6 extending toward the lower sheave Sa from the trolley 2 is substantially vertical when seen in a direction parallel to a short side direction x that is an extension direction of a short side, and is stretched in the state that a second portion 7 extending toward the upper sheave Sb from the lower sheave Sa is inclined with respect to the first portion 6, and the rope is stretched in the state that the second portion 7 is substantially vertical when seen in a direction parallel to a long side direction y that is an extension direction of a long side, and is stretched in the state that the first portion 6 is inclined with respect to the second portion 7.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
