To provide systems and methods for measuring operating current and operating voltage of an inductive proximity sensor in an improved manner.SOLUTION: A proximity sensing electronic unit receives from a proximity sensor an input signal derived by dividing a sensor current by a sensor supply voltage that produces the operating current. A division result, i.e., the quotient, is properly scaled to represent a state of the sensor. Circuitry ratiometrically determines its operation status by eliminating common mode effects and variations of sensor state thresholds, allowing additional sensing parameters and health status to be measured and monitored without extending the operational range of the sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
