To provide a holding device which can adjust an orientation of an object member to a desired orientation and then hold the object member while suppressing backlash.SOLUTION: A holding device 1 includes: a guide member 20 having a first recessed surface 21 or a first protruding surface oriented to a first side X1 in a reference direction X; a support member 10 which supports the guide member in a manner that the guide member can move in the reference direction; a repulsive force generation part 25 which generates a repulsive force in the reference direction between the support member and the guide member; and a first suction part 35 which is provided at the support member and generates a suction force between itself and an object member 100 contacting with the first recessed surface or the first protruding surface of the guide member to suction the object member and the guide member to a second side X2 in the reference direction against the repulsive force.
