To provide a cross member for automobile improved in the rigidity of a mount arm to make a tip portion of the mount arm less likely to be deformed when load is input from a wheel.SOLUTION: A cross member, to which support members for wheels are connected and which has a shape extending in a vehicle width direction, comprises: a mount section for the support members for the wheels disposed at both end of it; and a pair of mount arms. Each mount arm is composed of a hollow tube, a basal end portion of it is fixed to the cross member and a tip portion of it serves as a portion mounted on a vehicle body. The mount arm has, in a cross-section of a plane perpendicular to the axial direction of the hollow tube, a portion increasing in outside diameter in a direction orthogonal to a vehicle length direction with respect to outside diameter in the vehicle length direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
