To reduce a total exhaust emission volume exhausted from a catalyst during catalyst-warming control.SOLUTION: A hybrid vehicle 1 includes: an internal combustion engine 2 that has an exhaust passage 2e and a catalyst 2c disposed in the passage; a motor 3; and an electronic control unit 10. In catalyst-warming control performed before the catalyst has been activated, until an exhaust purification capability of the catalyst has exceeded a minimum output emission volume which is an exhaust emission volume exhausted from the engine when it is operated so that an engine output is at a minimum output, the engine is operated so as to minimize the exhaust emission volume per unit catalyst supply heat quantity and per unit time exhausted from the catalyst. When the exhaust purification capability of the catalyst has exceeded the minimum output emission volume, the operation of engine is switched to another mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
