To provide a detection device and method for accurately detecting the movement of a pantograph collector head of a railway vehicle.SOLUTION: In a power collection system 10, a detection device 50 includes a transmission part for transmitting a radio wave 140 to a collector head 110 of a pantograph 40, a reception part for receiving a reflection wave 150 from the collector head of the radio wave, and a detection part 130 for detecting the movement of the collector head by using the reflection wave received by the reception part. A method for detecting the movement of the collector head includes a stage for transmitting a radio wave to the collector head of the pantograph, a stage for receiving a reflection wave from the collector head of the radio wave, and a stage for detecting the movement of the collector head by using the received reflection wave.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
