To enable accurate discrimination by a simple and inexpensive constitution when discriminating between a broadside collision and an offset collision.SOLUTION: Horizontal acceleration is detected by a G sensor 4b for safing in an early phase of collision in association with generation of rotation of a vehicle 1 due to an offset collision of the vehicle 1. In this case, it is determined that the collision is not the broadside collision against the vehicle 1 but the offset collision. A threshold for determining whether or not acceleration detected by B pillar and C pillar sensors 2a, 2b, 3a and 3b after the early phase of the collision is caused by the broadside collision is changed from a usual sensitive threshold to an insensitive threshold higher than the sensitive threshold, by an air bag ECU 4b.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
