To realize a structure of a rack and pinion type steering gear unit which enables increase of force which presses a rack guide to a rack shaft and can prevent direct contact between an outer peripheral surface of the rack guide and an inner peripheral surface of a housing.SOLUTION: First elastic rings 12a, 12b are sandwiched between an outer peripheral surface of a rack guide 28 and an inner peripheral surface of a third housing part 16. The rack guide 28 has a first cylindrical part 32 extending in a direction toward a cover 29 at a rear side part. The cover 29 fixed to an opening end 18 of the third housing part 16 has a second cylindrical part 40 extending in a direction toward the rack guide 28. The first cylindrical part 32 and the second cylindrical part 40 are fitted so as to enable relative movement with respect to an axial direction of the third housing part 16. Between the rack guide 28 and the cover 29, coil springs 30a, 30b having different coil diameters are disposed overlapping in a radial direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3

    【課題】ラックガイドをラック軸に向けて押圧する力を増大でき、かつ、ラックガイドの外周面とハウジングの内周面とが直接接触することを防止できる、ラックアンドピニオン式ステアリングギヤユニットの構造を実現する。【解決手段】ラックガイド28の外周面と第三収容部16の内周面との間に、第一弾性リング12a、12bを挟持する。ラックガイド28は、後側部に、カバー29に近づく方向に伸長した第一筒部32を有し、第三収容部16の開口端18に固定されたカバー29は、ラックガイド28に近づく方向に伸長した第二筒部40を有する。第一筒部32と第二筒部40とを、第三収容部16の軸方向に関する相対移動を可能に嵌合する。ラックガイド28とカバー29との間に、コイル径の異なる複数のコイルばね30a、30bを径方向に重畳して配置する。【選択図】図3
