To provide a rank travel system that stabilizes a change of an inter-vehicular distance, on the basis of an excess tractional force change caused by a loading change and a gradient change and by making use of a retarder function provided in a power system.SOLUTION: A rank travel system for making a plurality of vehicles travel in a rank includes an engine, an engine retarder, an automatic transmission, a transmission retarder, an electronic control brake, a parking brake, a forward recognition device, a longitudinal acceleration sensor and an inter-vehicular communication device. An excess tractional force is calculated by detecting self-weight and a road grade, and traveling is performed in a setting in which a following vehicle has higher retarder ability and in a range in which the accelerating/decelerating ability of the vehicle with the lowest excess tractional force among the vehicles constituting the rank is not exceeded.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
