To provide a vehicle movement prediction device capable of predicting future movement of a preceding vehicle with high accuracy even with no inter-vehicle communication device installed on the preceding vehicle in front of its own vehicle, and to provide a vehicle movement prediction method thereof.SOLUTION: A vehicle movement prediction device comprises: inter-vehicle communication means for acquiring vehicle information from a communication vehicle around its vehicle; vehicle position detection means for detecting a vehicle position of a preceding vehicle in front of its own vehicle; communication vehicle selection means for selecting a history vehicle position closest to the vehicle position of the preceding vehicle, based on history vehicle position data of the vehicle information, calculating a closest distance between the history vehicle position and the vehicle position of the preceding vehicle and an azimuth difference between the preceding vehicle and the communication vehicle, and selecting the communication vehicle that becomes a vehicle traveling ahead of the preceding vehicle out of communication vehicles each having the closest distance and the azimuth difference that are equal to or less than respective predetermined values; and vehicle movement prediction means for predicting future movement of the preceding vehicle, based on vehicle position information of the selected communication vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
【課題】自車両前方の先行車両に車車間通信装置が搭載されていない場合においても当該先行車両の将来の動きの予測を高精度に行うことができる車両動き予測装置及び車両動き予測方法を提供することを目的としている。【解決手段】車両動き予測装置は、自車両の周辺にある通信車両から車両情報を取得する車車間通信手段と、自車両の先行車両の車両位置を検出する車両位置検出手段と、車両情報の履歴車両位置データに基づき、先行車両の車両位置に最も近接した履歴車両位置を選び、履歴車両位置と先行車両の車両位置との最近接距離及び先行車両と通信車両との方位差を算出し、それぞれが所定の値以下である通信車両の中から先行車両の前走車両となる通信車両を選定する通信車両選定手段と、選定された通信車両の車両位置の情報に基づいて、先行車両の将来の動きを予測する車両動き予測手段と、により構成されている。【選択図】図2
