To provide a rubber composition for a tread which is improved in overall performance of dry grip performance, wet grip performance, and wear resistance performance, and a tire having a tread composed of the rubber composition for a tread.SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tread contains, based on 100 pts.mass of a rubber component containing a styrene-butadiene rubber and a butadiene rubber, more than 20 pts.mass of aluminum hydroxide, 50 pts.mass or more of carbon black, and 0 pt.mass or more and 10 pts.mass or less of silica. The ratio of the content of the carbon black to the content of the aluminum hydroxide (the content of the carbon black/the content of the aluminum hydroxide) is 1.1-5.5.SELECTED DRAWING: None
