To provide a front face collision detection device which reduces a cost, and discriminates a front face collision form.SOLUTION: A front acceleration sensor is arranged in the vicinity of either of right and left ends of a radiator support part existing in front of a vehicle, two-axial acceleration in a fore-and-aft direction and a right-and-left direction is detected by the acceleration sensor at a front face collision which does not directly hit the acceleration sensor, a collision corresponding to a collision form of the vehicle is determined by the detected two-axial acceleration, and an operation of an occupant constraint device is controlled. Since the front acceleration sensor is arranged in the vicinity of either of the right and left ends of the radiator support part, the rigidity of an attachment part can be secured, heat damage measures are dispensed with while arranging the front acceleration sensor in an engine room, and measures in terms of wiring harness protection are dispensed with. Furthermore, by inputting the two-axial acceleration of the front acceleration sensor, a collision form of a center pole, an underride or the like which is undetectable by an ECU acceleration sensor (two-axial type) can be discriminated by secondary map determination.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
【課題】コストの低減を図り前面衝突形態を判別する前面衝突検出装置を提供する。【解決手段】フロント加速度センサを、車両の前部にあるラジエータサポート部の左右いずれかの端付近に配置し、その加速度センサに直撃しない前面衝突時に、その加速度センサにより前後方向と左右方向の2軸方向の加速度を検出し、検出した2軸の加速度により車両の衝突形態に応じた衝突判定を行い、乗員拘束装置の作動を制御する。フロント加速度センサをラジエータサポート部の左右いずれかの端付近に配置したので、取付部剛性を確保することができ、エンジンルームに配置しながら熱害対策も不要とすることができ、また、ハーネス保護面でも対策が不要となる。さらに、フロント加速度センサの2軸方向の加速度を入力することにより二次元マップ判定により、ECUの加速度センサ(2軸タイプ)では検知不能な中央ポールとアンダーライド等の衝突形態も判別することができる。【選択図】図4
