To provide a four-wheel drive vehicle and a method for controlling the same that can distribute proper drive force to rear wheels when traveling on a slope even in a case where a sensor dedicated to gradient detection is not mounted.SOLUTION: A four-wheel drive vehicle 1 distributes the drive force of an engine 11 to front wheels 181, 182 and rear wheels 191, 192 depending on traveling conditions. The four-wheel drive vehicle 1 includes a drive force transmission device 2 that transmits the drive force of the engine 11 to the rear wheels 191, 192 adjustably, a control device 6 that controls the drive force transmission device 2, and a communication device 72 that obtains by means of inter-vehicle communication another vehicle information including the vehicle speed and frontward/backward acceleration of another vehicle 9 ahead in a traveling direction. The control device 6 increases the proportion of distribution of drive force to the rear wheels 191, 192 when the vehicle speed of the other vehicle 9 is zero and is in a slope halt state where the magnitude of the frontward/backward acceleration is a threshold or more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
