To provide a roller preventing derailment from a guide groove when engaged with the guide groove composed of a pair of inclined surfaces formed on the rail and a square groove and rotating, and a traveling carriage fitted with the roller.SOLUTION: A roller A that is engaged with guide grooves 51 composed of square grooves 51b and a pair of inclined surfaces 51a formed on a bottom part and rotates has: a tapered part 2 whose diameter expands as it approaches a center in a thickness direction; and an almost square projection 3 arranged on an end side of the tapered part. An inclination angle of the tapered part is equal to an inclination angle of the inclined surfaces 51a in the guide grooves and width dimension of the projection part is smaller than the width dimension of the square grooves 51b. A traveling carriage B has a driving roller 11 arranged on a carrier body 10 and the roller A arranged on the carrier body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
