To provide an optical beacon capable of performing proper communication control whether a communicating party is a sophisticated on-board device or a conventional on-board device.SOLUTION: An optical beacon in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention wirelessly communicates with an on-board device of a traveling vehicle using an optical signal. The optical beacon includes: a light receiving unit capable of performing light-electricity conversion at two transmission speeds of high and lower speeds; a light transmission unit capable of performing electricity-light conversion at a predetermined transmission speed; a light emission control unit that suspends light emission of downlink light with establishment of a suspension condition as a trigger, and resumes the light emission of downlink light with establishment of a resumption condition as a trigger; and a communication control unit that performs communication control for a conventional on-board device that transmits a downstream frame, which contains lane notification information for the conventional on-board device, after continuing transmission of the downstream frame, which is provided prior to switching to a downlink, over a predetermined duration in the event that a low-rate frame of the conventional on-board device incompatible with high-speed uplink transmission is received.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
