To provide a tire tread composition comprising a dicyclopentadiene (DCPD)-based resin functionalized with groups capable of reacting with silica or carbon black, where the composition exhibits enhanced durability, traction, handling and extractability properties.SOLUTION: A functionalized resin is obtained by contacting a polymer comprising units derived from (DCPD) with a vinyl monomer or vinylene monomer in the presence of a metathesis catalyst, where the vinyl monomer or vinylene monomer comprises a reaction product comprising at least one of silyl, siloxy and alkoxysilyl groups.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
