To provide a technique that can improve stability when an overhead wire travel device travels on an overhead wire.SOLUTION: A crawler type overhead wire travel device traveling on an overhead wire strung between steel towers comprises at least one pairs of sprockets, a motor rotating at least one of the one pairs of sprockets, a chain which is strung between the one pairs of sprockets and turns around the circumference of the one pairs of sprockets by rotating at least one of the one pairs of sprockets, and a plurality of pieces which are attached to the chain with specified pitches along a circumferential direction of the chain and circles periodically following rotation of the chain while holding the overhead wire. Each of the plurality of pieces is composed of an elastic body. At least one of the plurality of pieces has a soft part softer than other part of the one piece on at least part of a portion holding the overhead wire.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 12
