To provide a forklift capable of efficiently carrying out lifting work at the forward and backward motion at a slow speed in the state of a running wheel without braking.SOLUTION: A forklift inching mechanism connects/disconnects a clutch interposed between an engine and a transmission and makes the forklift move forward or backward at a slow speed during the lifting work to lift the load while the forklift is raised by driving a lift cylinder, and it comprises a lift valve to drive the lift cylinder, a pilot valve 12 for cargo handling to operate the pilot pressure for operating the lift valve, and first to third pressure switches 17A-17C which are inching detectors for cargo handling to detect a prescribed operational state of the pilot valve 12 for cargo handling, and it controls so that an on-vehicle controller 34 connects/disconnects the clutch according to the inching detector for cargo handling.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
