To charge a battery of an electric vehicle by selectively using a high power supply for high speed charging or a lower power supply for low speed charging, in an inductive power transfer (IPT) pad and system for charging an electric and hybrid electric vehicle.SOLUTION: An electric vehicle includes a charging pad 20 that selectively connects a battery of a conducting vehicle 10 to a high power supply for high speed charging or a lower power supply for charging using an IPT. The battery of the vehicle is used to control the load demand of an electrical network through the fluctuation in the frequency of the supplied power in a system.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
