To provide a vessel propulsion system for reducing a passing electric power amount, having capacity of an electric power conversion apparatus smaller and a control method for the same.SOLUTION: A vessel control system includes: a first power supply step by a first generator 32 to inboard power load; a second power supply step for supplying power to the inboard power load through a first power conversion apparatus 61 and a second power conversion apparatus 62 by a second generator 12; a first load shift step for shifting one portion of the inboard power load from the first generator to the second generator; an electric motor drive step for driving an electric motor 53 through the first power conversion apparatus and a third power conversion apparatus 63 from the second generator; a first propulsion energizing step for increasing a propulsion energizing amount of the electric motor by increasing a supply amount of power by the second generator to a threshold; a second load shift step for shifting inboard electric power load from a first generator to a third generator by generating power by starting the third generator; and a second propulsion energizing step for increasing a propulsion energizing amount of the electric generator by increasing the supplied amount of electric power from the third generator.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
