To provide a position capturing method and a position capturing system that are highly accurate.SOLUTION: A position capturing system 1 comprises: a vehicle 5 which is equipped with a measuring unit 2 for magnetically detecting magnetic markers 10 laid in a road and discriminating polarity, and a GPS unit 35 for positioning a position; a database 34 for storing the laid position of each magnetic marker 10 in association with polarity information of the magnetic markers 10; and a position capturing unit 32 for carrying out processing for capturing a position of the vehicle 5 by selecting a corresponding laid position from the database 34 when detecting any of the magnetic markers 10. When any of the magnetic markers 10 is detected, a laid position is selected which is a laid position positioned within a prescribed range using a positioning position according to the GPS unit 35 as reference, and whose associated polarity conforms to the polarity of the detected magnetic marker 10.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
