To provide a technique which reduces restriction in calibration required for increasing accuracy in detection of a sight line direction and speed of processing of the detection.SOLUTION: A sight line direction detecting apparatus has a determining unit, a generating unit, and a resuming unit. The determining unit determines whether or not calibration regarding detection of a sight line is interrupted. If the determining unit determines that the calibration is interrupted, the generating unit generates data obtained in the middle of calibration.
