To provide an internal combustion engine which enables improvement of workability when a tensile force applied by a tensile force application part is released.SOLUTION: An engine 100 (an internal combustion engine) includes: a timing chain cover 20 which is attached to an engine body 10 so as to cover a timing chain 41 which uses lubrication oil of the engine body 10; a tensile force application part 50 which is disposed between the engine body 10 and the timing chain cover 20 and applies a tensile force to the timing chain 41; and a tensile force release part 80 which is provided so as to penetrate through a through hole 21d of the timing chain cover 20 and releases the tensile force applied by the tensile force application part 50.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
