To provide a quay crane capable of suppressing weight increase of the folding boom while accurately maintaining the horizontal position of the tip boom by the auxiliary stay at the erected state of the folding boom and provide a control method of this quay crane.SOLUTION: An auxiliary stay 15 consists of columnar members capable of supporting the compression force in its extending direction, a pedestal 16 is installed on a top face of an intermediate boom 4a, and the auxiliary stay 15 is supported from below by the pedestal 16 in the lodged state of a folding boom 4 where the intermediate boom 4a and a tip boom 4b are laid in the horizontal state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
