To provide an engine unit for a saddle-riding type vehicle that can narrow a vehicle width in addition to improving visual attractiveness of a vehicle.SOLUTION: An engine unit for a saddle-riding type vehicle includes: an engine unit body 18 including an engine E, a transmission M and a starting shaft 20 for kick-starting of the engine E; a transmission cover 19 for covering a lateral side of the transmission M; and a kick operation lever 25 of which one end is connected to the starting shaft 20. A recess 36 capable of storing the kick operation lever 25 is provided at a vehicle outside lateral surface of the transmission cover 19.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
