To diagnose an engine more reliably.SOLUTION: A vehicular control method, for use in diagnosing an engine during a travel in a vehicle that includes the engine and a motor as a drive system, includes: a selection step for selecting, as a diagnosing section, a section where an operation point of the engine is predicted to be included in a diagnosis-enabled zone, from a travel-planned route; a diagnosis step for performing diagnosis in a case where, in the diagnosing section, a requirement operation point based on a driver operation is included in the diagnosis-enabled zone; and a drive system control step for controlling the engine by changing the requirement operation point so as to be included in the diagnosis-enabled zone and controlling the motor so as to compensate for an equivalence of change in the requirement operation point, in a case where the requirement operation point is not included in the diagnosis-enabled zone.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5A
