To ensure the strength and rigidity of a pillar while decreasing a dead angle outside a vehicle as viewed from a driver seat of the vehicle.SOLUTION: A pillar upper part (12) for a vehicle comprises a structure member (20) of closed cross-section, formed by combining a plurality of component members (22, 24) via a joint part extending in a longitudinal direction thereof. An outer coating member (30) for covering the joint part of this structure member is disposed on the outside of the vehicle. As one embodiment, each of the plurality of component members has outer flanges (22a, 24a) projecting outside the vehicle. The outer flanges are joined to form the joint part. The outer flange of each of the component members extends the inside (30a) of the outer coating member.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2

    【課題】自動車の運転席から見た車外の死角を減らしつつ、ピラーの強度と剛性を確保する。【解決手段】自動車のピラー上部(12)であって、複数の構成部材(22、24)が長手方向にわたる接合部を介して組み合わされた閉断面の構造部材(20)を備え、その車外側にこの構造部材の接合部を覆う外側被覆部材(30)が配置されている。ひとつの実施例として、複数の構成部材がそれぞれ車外側に突出する外側フランジ(22a、24a)を有し、この外側フランジどうしが接合されて前記の接合部が構成されており、この各構成部材の外側フランジが外側被覆部材の内部(30a)に入り込んでいる。【選択図】図2
