PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for an automatic fiber placement (AFP) machine which show improvements in the issues of overheating or insufficient heating of a laminate sheet and attach a tow to the laminate sheet properly.SOLUTION: The method involves read-out of distance data which shows a predicted distance from a heating surface 400 of a heater 210 of the AFP machine to a surface of a laminate sheet 150 laid up with the AFP machine. The method involves steps of: guiding the AFP machine to lay-up the laminate sheet 150 in accordance with a numerical control (NC) program; identifying a present position of the heater 210 in a passage; determining a moving speed of the heater 210 of the AFP machine; associating the present position of the heater 210 with the predicted distance; and controlling an amount of an electric power to the heater 210 at the present position based on the predicted distance associated with the present position and the speed at the present position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
