PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular power supply device capable of collectively diagnosing the presence/absence of an abnormality in a plurality of components in the power supply device, and a control method for the vehicular power supply device.SOLUTION: A vehicular power supply device 10 according to the present invention comprises: a control unit 16; a first battery 11 and a second battery 12; and a first switching element 13, a second switching element 14, and a protection element 15 for connecting the first battery 11 and the second battery 12 to each other in series in order from the first battery 11 side. The control unit 16 determines an abnormality of the first switching element 13 on the basis of a first voltage at a positive electrode terminal of the first battery 11 and a second voltage at the first battery 11 side terminal of the second switching element 14, determines an abnormality of the second switching element 14 on the basis of the second voltage and a third voltage at the second battery 12 side terminal of the second switching element 14, and determines an abnormality of the protection element 15 on the basis of the third voltage and a fourth voltage at a positive electrode terminal of the second battery 12.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
