PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormality detection device and an abnormality detection method for a right-left wheel drive device that enable a bearing and a group of gears in which abnormalities have occurred to be easily and inexpensively discriminated.SOLUTION: The right-left wheel drive device comprises two drive sources which are mounted to a vehicle, and can be independently controlled, and a reduction gear which is arranged between the two drive sources and right and left driving wheels, amplifies a difference of torque which is imparted from the two drive sources, and transmits it to the right-left wheels. An abnormality detection device 68 for the right-left wheel drive device has vehicle condition detection means 73 for determining whether the vehicle is in a straight traveling state or in a turning state, and abnormality region discrimination means 74 for discriminating whether or not an abnormality occurs in a first mechanical element group, and whether or not an abnormality occurs in a second mechanical element groove from a vibration measurement value output from a vibration sensor 70 when the vehicle is in the straight traveling state, and a vibration measurement value output from the vibration sensor 70 when the vehicle is in the turning state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
