PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aircraft propulsion system including an electric propulsion engine.SOLUTION: A propulsion system (100) for an aircraft (10) is provided having a propulsion engine configured to be mounted on the aircraft (10). The propulsion engine includes an electric machine defining an electric machine tip speed during operation of the propulsion engine. The propulsion system additionally includes a fan (304) rotatable about a central axis (302) of the propulsion engine with the electric machine. The fan (304) defines a fan pressure ratio (R) and includes a plurality of fan blades (328), each fan blade (328) defining a fan blade tip speed. The propulsion engine defines a ratio of the fan blade tip speed to the electric machine tip speed, which is within 20% of the equation, 1.68×R-0.518, such that the propulsion engine may operate at a desired efficiency.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
