PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emission element drive device which can avoid that a light emission element is not completely lit during a prescribed mode (second mode) time.SOLUTION: A light emission element drive device has: a drive circuit 1 in which power supply to a light emission element connected to an output end is possible during a first mode and is impossible during non-first mode; a drive circuit 12 in which power supply to a light emission element connected to an output end is possible during a second mode; an abnormality detection part which detects abnormality of a light emission element Z2, which is always connected to an output end of the drive circuit 12, during at least the second mode; a bypass route 3 which connects the output end of the drive circuit 1 and the output end of the drive circuit 12; and a switch SW3 which is provided on the bypass route 3, and which makes the bypass route 3 to be in a conduction state when the abnormality detection part detects any abnormality, and makes the bypass route 3 to be in a cut-off state when the abnormality detection part does not detect any abnormality.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
