PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active winglet and a controllable airflow modification device that improve efficiency and performance of an aircraft.SOLUTION: An active winglet 100 includes an angled portion 106 on the outer side of a body portion 104, and a controllable airflow modification device 110 in the form of control surfaces 112. The control surfaces are operated by a control system, and the influence of the winglet on the fatigue life of a wing is reduced. Further, the overall load capacity of the wing carrying capability of the aircraft is increased, and thus the gross weight potential of the aircraft is increased.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
