PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boom for a work machine, which enables reduction in thickness of a steel plate forming a boom member, while preventing buckling of the boom member.SOLUTION: A boom member 41 is made up of a bent plate-like member and has a cross-sectional shape including protruding portions 50 each protruding inward of an outer peripheral portion. The protruding portion 50 has a pair of flat side-wall portions 51 each extending inward from the outer peripheral portion of the boom member 41, through a first bending portion 53. The flat side-wall portion 51 extends being bent inward at an angle within the range of 30 to 120 degrees relative to the outer peripheral portion of the boom member 41. This structure increases rigidity of the boom member 41 and improves strength against buckling, thus enabling reduction in thickness of the steel plate forming the boom member 41, and reduction in weight of the boom member 41.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3

    【課題】ブーム部材を構成する鋼板の板厚を小さくするとともに、ブーム部材の座屈を抑制することのできる作業機械用ブームを提供する。【解決手段】ブーム部材41は、板状部材を屈曲することにより、外周部に対して内側に突出する突出部50が設けられた断面形状を有し、突出部50は、ブーム部材41の外周部から第1屈曲部53を介して内側に延びる一対の側壁平坦部51を有し、側壁平坦部51は、ブーム部材41の外周部に対して30度から120度の角度の範囲内で内側に屈曲して延びている。これにより、ブーム部材41の剛性が高められて座屈強度を向上させることが可能となるので、ブーム部材41を構成する鋼板の板厚を小さくすることができ、ブーム部材41の軽量化を図ることが可能となる。【選択図】図3
