PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance detection device, inter-vehicle distance detection method, and program capable of estimating a traffic situation and supporting driving with high reliability in consideration of an empty state of a road.SOLUTION: An inter-vehicle distance detection device includes a reception section, a detection section, and a control section. The reception section receives image data obtained by imaging a forward side of a first vehicle by an imaging part. The detection section performs first processing to detect a second vehicle traveling on the forward side of the first vehicle and also to detect an inter-vehicle distance between the first vehicle and the second vehicle on the basis of the image data. The control section identifies a factor not to detect the second vehicle when the second vehicle is not detected in the first processing, and invalidates a second detection result of an inter-vehicle distance when reliability of a first detection result which indicates that the second vehicle is not detected and corresponds to the identified factor is equal to or less than a predetermined threshold.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】道路の空き状態を考慮した、より信頼性の高い交通状況の推定や運転支援を行うことができる車間距離検出装置、車間距離検出方法、およびプログラムを提供する。【解決手段】実施形態の車間距離検出装置は、受信部と、検出部と、制御部と、を備える。受信部は、撮像部により第1車両の前方を撮像して得られた画像データを受信する。検出部は、画像データに基づいて、第1車両の前方を走行する第2車両を検出しかつ第1車両と第2車両との車間距離を検出する第1処理を実行する。制御部は、第1処理によって第2車両が検出されなかった場合、第2車両が検出されなかった要因を特定し、特定した要因に応じた、第2車両が検出されなかったことを示す第1検出結果の信頼度が、所定の閾値以下である場合、車間距離の第2検出結果を無効化する。【選択図】図1
