PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting a friction coefficient of a brake pad without being influenced by travelling environments such as a road surface gradient and a braking force gradient and pitching for vehicle braking.SOLUTION: The device for detecting a friction coefficient of a brake pad comprises: means that makes means for braking wheels to generate braking force so that a vehicle is kept in a halting state on a slope road; means that makes means for driving the wheels to generate driving force so as to let the vehicle start moving in an uphill direction against sliding-down force due to the slope road and breaking force; and means that detects a friction coefficient of a brake pad on the basis of a gradient of the slope road and the braking force and the driving force at the time of starting the vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
