PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a periphery monitoring device capable of grasping a direction an obstacle approaching a nearby region even when displaying a nearby overhead image.SOLUTION: A periphery monitoring device 100 for a work machine comprises: an acquisition part 101 for acquiring imaging information from cameras 302-305 for imaging a work machine periphery; an image generation part 104 for generating an overhead image based on the imaging information acquired by the acquisition part 101; a detection part 102 for detecting an obstacle around the work machine; and a display part for selectively displaying a first overhead image that is an overhead image in a nearby region around the work machine and a second overhead image including the first overhead image and an overhead image in a region outside of the nearby region. When displaying the first overhead image, the display part displays a direction indication representing a direction of the obstacle detected in the region outside of the nearby region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
