PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic winch for a tugboat which reduces an impact in releasing excessive load exceeding a normal brake force even when the excessive load is applied in a hydraulic band brake device mounted to the winch.SOLUTION: A winch for a tugboat comprises: a brake cylinder 13 rotating integrally with a winch drum 12; a brake band 14 wound around the brake cylinder 13 so as to expand and contract freely in a circumferential direction; a brake mechanism 15 which is connected to one end part of the brake band 14, pulls the brake band 14 to a brake side by a spring, and relaxes the brake band 14 against the pull of the spring by a first hydraulic cylinder 44; and a support mechanism 16 which is provided in the other end part of the brake band 14, holds the position of the other end part of the brake band 14, and releases the position holding of the other end part when excessive load of the brake band 14 is applied.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
