PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a butt welding structure and a butt welding method for an extremely thick steel plate which enable an extremely thick steel plate exceeding a plate thickness of 70 mm to be butt-welded, secure a tensile strength of a butt weld joint, and are capable of suppressing or preventing a decrease in joint toughness and welding in a short time with a small number of weld paths.SOLUTION: A cross section orthogonal to a butt part of a first extremely thick steel plate 1 and a second extremely thick steel plate 2 has a plurality of butt weld joints 4 offset with an offset amount L which can avoid thermal effects from each other and a boundary face 6 that couples adjacent butt weld joints 4 to extend in parallel with front faces or rear faces. 【課題】板厚が70mmを超える極厚鋼板を突合せ溶接することができ、かつ突合せ溶接継手の引張強度を確保し、継手じん性の低下を抑制又は防止することができ、かつ溶接パス数が少なく短期間に溶接できる極厚鋼板の突合せ溶接構造と突合せ溶接方法を提供する。【解決手段】第1極厚鋼板1と第2極厚鋼板2の突合せ部に直交する断面において、互いに熱影響を回避できるオフセット量Lを隔ててオフセットした複数の突合せ溶接継手4と、隣接する突合せ溶接継手4を連結し表面又は裏面に平行に延びる境界面6と、を有する。各突合せ溶接継手4は、それぞれ突合せ溶接時の継手性能を維持可能な許容厚Tを有する。【選択図】図1
