PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve navigational or other location-based services in an indoor area.SOLUTION: A device for generating or using an indoor likelihood heatmap or the like, projects multiple grid points 404 over a schematic map 106 of an indoor area, the schematic map indicating multiple obstructions in the indoor area 108. Constrained shortest feasible paths 402a, 402b between grid point pairs of the multiple grid points are determined. For a particular grid point of the multiple grid points, a count 504 of the feasible paths that traverse the particular grid point is determined. A likelihood heatmap for use in one or more navigational applications is generated based, at least in part, on the count.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
