PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight in which the increase in the number of light sources is suppressed and which can be used for various shapes of liquid crystal display, and a liquid crystal display device including such a backlight.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device 1 includes two liquid crystal displays 2 and 3 with different shapes, and an edge-light type backlight 4 provided behind the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3. The backlight 4 has the size that covers the rear surface region of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3. The backlight 4 includes a light source 12, and a light guide portion 6 that guides the light from the light source 12 to the rear surface region of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3. The light guide portion 6 includes a plurality of columnar blocks 7 disposed in a two-dimensional direction. A light-blocking plate 10 is disposed in a space 8 between the columnar blocks 7 at outer peripheral sides 2b and 3b of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3 and in the space 8 at which the light from another light source 12c is introduced, so that the light from the light source 12 is delivered through the light guide portion 6 to the rear surface region of the liquid crystal displays 2 and 3 and the light is not delivered to the region other than the rear surface region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1

    【課題】光源の個数の増加を抑制しつつ、様々な形状の液晶ディスプレイに適用可能なバックライト及びそれを備えた液晶表示装置を提供する。【解決手段】液晶表示装置1は、2つの異形の液晶ディスプレイ2、3と液晶ディスプレイ2、3の背後に設けられるエッジライト型のバックライト4とを備える。バックライト4は液晶ディスプレイ2、3の背面領域を包含するサイズに形成される。バックライト4は、光源12と、光源12からの光を液晶ディスプレイ2、3の背面領域まで導光する導光部6とを備える。導光部6は、2次元方向に配列された複数の柱状ブロック7を備える。液晶ディスプレイ2、3の背面領域には光源12からの光が導光部6を介して照射され、背面領域以外の領域には光が照射されないように、液晶ディスプレイ2、3の外周辺2b、3bの位置にある柱状ブロック7間の隙間8及び他光源12cの光の導入位置の隙間8に遮光板10が配置される。【選択図】図1
