PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing member capable of reducing weight while securing absorption energy.SOLUTION: A shock absorbing member includes a main body 20 formed from a metal plate and an intermediate plate 30. The main body 20 has a shape on cross-section vertical to the axial direction which is a square. The intermediate plate 30 is disposed along the axial direction of the main body 20, is joined to the main body such that both edges in the width direction are respectively superposed on a pair of long sides of the square of the main body 20 and further have a plurality of holes 30a which are arranged side by side along the axial direction of the main body 20 and are arranged within a prescribed region X. The prescribed region X is located on a center in the width direction of the intermediate plate 30 and has a width (mm) of 39% for the width W1 (mm) of the intermediate plate. A plate thickness (mm) of the intermediate plate 30 is 140 to 290% for the plate thickness (mm) of the main body 20.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2C
