PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable continual use of an existing weight frame and eliminate work time necessary for replacement by increasing the strength of a weight frame itself without replacing the existing weight frame.SOLUTION: A balance weight 1 includes a weight frame 7, and a laminated weight 9 stacked in the weight frame 7, and is vertically moved along guide rails 17L and 17R following the movement of an elevator car. The weight frame 7 includes a pair of left and right vertical columns 9L and 9R having U-shaped horizontal sections, an upper beam 11 for connecting the vertical columns upward, and a lower beam 13 for connecting the vertical columns downward, and reinforcing members 24 are fitted to the vertical columns 9L and 9R along a vertical direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
