PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a virtual image display device that is small in an amount of heat to be transmitted from a deflection mirror device to a screen.SOLUTION: A virtual image display device comprises: an image projection device 3 that projects an image; and an observation optical system 2 that forms a virtual image of the image. The image projection device has: a first image formation optical system 32 upon which an emitting light ray from a laser light source 31 is incident; a deflection mirror device 33 that performs a deflection scanning of the emitting light ray from the first image formation optical system; a second image formation optical system 34 upon which the emitting light ray from the deflection mirror device is incident; and a screen 4 on which a light flux emitted from the second image formation optical system is projected and which emits the light flux to the observation optical system. The first image formation optical system is configured to form a first intermediate image 50 between the deflection mirror device and the screen, and the second image formation optical system is configured to form a second intermediate image 51 on the screen.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
