PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment apparatus which can suppress degradation in start-up performance of an electric discharge lamp without changing starting voltage.SOLUTION: A water treatment apparatus 1 includes a water flow pipe 10, a plurality of electric discharge lamps 20 and a start-up auxiliary part 40. The water flow pipe 10 has light-shielding properties and makes treated water pass through. The plurality of electric discharge lights 20 radiate ultraviolet rays in the water flow pipe 10. The start-up auxiliary part 40 applies light to at least one electric discharge lamp 22 (20) of the plurality of electric discharge lamps 20 during the time from non-lighting of the plurality of electric discharge lamps 20 until starting lighting thereof.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
