PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus to reduce the overall number of electrical components while providing flexibility to charge an EV.SOLUTION: An energy management system (ESMS) includes: energy storage devices 32, 34, 36 coupled to a vehicle drivetrain; first and second energy ports coupleable to the energy storage devices and an electrical charging system; first and second DC electrical converters each configured to step up and step down a DC voltage; and a controller 46. The controller determines a voltage of each energy port and controls at least one of the first and second DC electrical converters to either step up or step down an input DC voltage on the basis of the determined voltage of each energy port.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
