PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake mechanism which is attached to a carriage and capable of obtaining high braking effects with a simple operation.SOLUTION: A brake mechanism 100 has a first curved part 131 and a second curved part 132 that are curved in directions opposite to each other. The brake mechanism 100 comprises: a flat spring 130 in which a first opposing surface 133a and a second opposing surface 134a, which oppose to each other through the first curved part 131, are formed; a brake box 110 for accommodating the flat spring 130 by fixing the end part nearer to the first curved part 131 than the second curved part 132 of the flat spring 130; and a brake lever 120 which is inserted between the first opposing surface 133a and the second opposing surface 134a, and has a shaft member 121 fixed rotatably to the brake box 110. The flat spring 130 has a projection 135 located at the end part on the side nearer to the second curved part 132 than the first curved part 131. The brake lever comes into contact with the flat spring and deforms the flat spring so as to expand a gap between the pair of opposing surfaces by rotating the shaft member.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 11
