PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the bending strength of a vehicle structural member having an M-cross-section such as a bumper reinforcement.SOLUTION: Outer walls 42 of a pair of protrusions 32, 34 are high in rigidity since stepped portions 44 are provided therein, and inner walls 40 of the paired protrusions 32, 34 are relatively low in rigidity since the inner walls 40 remain flat. If a buffer load is applied to a vehicle structural member from a protrusion direction of the protrusions 32, 34 at a time of a vehicle collision, the opening deformation of the paired outer walls 42 is suppressed and the paired outer walls 42 flexurally deform at a relatively high load without the opening deformation, so that the bending strength of the vehicle structural member improves.
【課題】バンパーリインフォースメント等のM字形断面を有する自動車用構造部材の曲げ強度を向上させる。【解決手段】一対の突出部32、34の外壁42には段差44が設けられているため剛性が高くなる一方、一対の突出部32、34の内壁40は平坦なままであるため比較的剛性が低く、車両衝突時に突出部32、34の突出方向から衝突荷重が加えられた場合に、一対の外壁42の開き変形が抑制され、その外壁42が開き変形することなく比較的高荷重で撓み変形させられるようになって曲げ強度が向上する。【選択図】図4
