PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a structure making it possible to prevent giving discomfort to an operator during steering over a long term in a rack-and-pinion type steering gear unit.SOLUTION: An axial hole 27 is disposed at a central part of a pinion shaft 6a. The axial hole 27 opens into an upper end surface of the pinion shaft 6a and reaches a portion closer to an upper end than an engaging part between a pinion tooth 7 and a rack tooth 9 in an axial direction of the pinion shaft 6a. A supply hole 28 is disposed which establishes communication between a deep end part of the axial hole 27 and an outer peripheral surface of the pinion shaft 6a. Lubricant is loaded into the axial hole 27.

    【課題】ラックアンドピニオン式ステアリングギヤユニットにおいて、操舵時に運転者に違和感を与える事を長期間に亙って防止できる構造を、低コストで実現する。【解決手段】ピニオン軸6aの中心部に、このピニオン軸6aの上端面に開口すると共に、このピニオン軸6aの軸方向に関してピニオン歯7とラック歯9との噛合部よりも上端寄り部分に迄達する軸方向孔27を設ける。又、この軸方向孔27の奥端部と、ピニオン軸6aの外周面とを連通させる、供給孔28を設ける。そして、軸方向孔27内に、潤滑剤を充填する。【選択図】図1
